The Artist

Suzanne Scherer is a Contemporary American Realist Painter, working in New York City, Aix-en-Provence, France, and Palm Beach, Florida.

Her work has been featured in Art In America, ArtNews, The New York Times, The New Yorker, PBS, and Public Affairs Television, and Who’s Who in American Women. She has displayed in 15 solo exhibitions and nearly 100 group exhibitions across galleries and museums internationally, including the Library of Congress, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Smithsonian Museum, the Harvard University Fogg Art Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art Mezzanine Gallery.

Scherer was the first American artist to study visual art in Soviet Russia during the Cold War, in agreement signed between US President Reagan and Soviet President Gorbachev. She was enrolled at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts via the International Research & Exchanges Board, exhibiting two solo shows at the New Tretyakov Gallery and the American Embassy while there. When attempting to return to the United States, she was detained by the Soviet Government.

She later returned for her third solo exhibition at the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts.

Scherer earned her MFA from Brooklyn College. She has received international recognition for her 30 years of collaboration with the Post-Soviet Realist Painter Pavel Ouporov, working together as Scherer & Ouporov.
